Fast-growing knitwear brand, ShopLornz is completely handmade and personal, selling intricate items from knitted tops and jumpers to hats and gloves. Creator, Lorna, explains that the creativity that inspired the brand has always been woven into her life. “I have always been creative and loved crafting since I was young” she explains “I loved sewing and making things” however didn’t discover her love for knitting until university.

Like many students, the transition to living away from home was difficult, with Lorna explaining that “I was struggling a lot with my mental health” and “crocheting really helped me reduce anxiety, kind of like a form of mindfulness. When I felt anxious it helped calm me down and focus on something else”. What began as a coping tool quickly became part of her identity- now navigating one of her busiest periods yet as she explains “I’m working on small drops each week and they’re selling out every time. It’s a pretty incredible feeling.” 

Lorna’s design style is intuitive and thoughtful, describing her design process as far from traditional. “I have no fashion design experience, so I really just wing it” and “most of the time I get an idea in my head that I can’t stop thinking about and quickly sketch it out. Then it’s trial and error until I get the fit right.”

This handmade design approach means that Lorna’s creations take longer however each piece becomes much more meaningful. “Depending on the item, it can take between two and six hours” adding, “Its time-consuming, but that’s what makes it so special.”

Despite her busy schedule, Lorna still finds the time to feed her love for fashion in ways other than just creating it. Drawing inspiration from boho-chic Chloé, Marc Jacobs’, mid 2000s layering, and fellow small and independent brands such as Melissa Tida’s handmade head ware and Australian clothing brand My Mum Made It. Lorna’s passions for clothing is clear; “My life at the moment revolves completely around my brand. I literally wake up thinking about it and go to sleep thinking about it too.”

Looking ahead, Lorna explains that she is “a big believer in manifesting, so I love to make vision boards about how I want the future to look” which, judging by the momentum of ShopLornz and her undeniable love to create, it’s a future that’s already taking shape.
